WELCOME : Coach Steve Meredith

We would like to welcome Steve Meredith to the Woden Team.  Steve is taking on the Role as Head Coach and will be coaching the Gold and Silver Squads.  He will also be working with Coach Beth and Coach Neil, as he will be taking a keen interest on all our swimmers.

Some History: Steve got involved with swimming approximately 25 years ago when his own kids took an interest.  He quickly gained his Bronze and Silver Coaching Qualifications, is a qualified Triathlon coach and over the years, has gained a lot of coaching experience including 20 years as a Head Coach, with the past 10 years being the Head Coach at the AIS.  Interestingly, Steve’s own boys swam with the Woden Club for a period in their younger days and he has also coached quite a number of other Woden swimmers.

Steve has been instrumental in developing many swimmers/athletes up to international level, including swimmers on Junior Australian teams/squads; National finalists and medallists; Male Swimmer of the Meet at NSW Country Championships; and a number of Record Holders at NSW State; Country and National School Championships.  He has also coached triathletes to the Youth Olympics and Open World  Long Course Championships.  Steve has been a coach with NSW Squads including State Teams and ETS; and a coach with the Australian Youth Squad.  He also has extensive experience on the teaching front, training and mentoring coaches.

Message from Coach Steve:   I take a lot of pride in not only developing swimmers, but in developing people.  I really like working hard to develop high level swimming skills.  This is ultimately the key to swimming fast and achieving both short and longer term swimming goals.  A strong kick is also critical, so if you can’t kick … you had better start practicing.  Remember TRAIN to make it happen, RACE to let it happen.  Challenge yourself.  While you are busy saying you can’t do something, others are already out there doing it!
