February 2023 Club Night

RESULTS:

We have our first club night of the year coming up on Friday the 24th. Warm-up will be from 5pm and racing will commence at 5.30pm sharp. We expect to be finished by 7pm and will have a BBQ in the outdoor area following racing. We have added a small $2 entry fee per swimmer to contribute to the costs of the BBQ, the remainder is financed by the club.

This meet will be run short course due to pool availability, and times will be official (as long as we get enough volunteers and timekeepers). Note that age nationals are accepting short course times (separate QTs) and there will still be long course time trials in March for those swimmers chasing QTs for nationals.

As this meet is still Summer season we will run the 200IM rather than the 100IM. We will also be running a 200m freestyle at the end of the program. There will be 25/50/100m in all strokes.

There is a maximum of 4 events per swimmer and you cannot enter a 25 and 50m event in the same stroke. For those with times under 30 seconds (35 seconds for breaststroke) for 25m please give the 50m event a go. Entries may not be accepted for 25m events if you are significantly under 30 seconds or have achieved a time under this mark more than once.

The order of events is as follows:

  • 1 Mixed 100 Freestyle
  • 2 Mixed 25 Breaststroke
  • 3 Mixed 50 Breaststroke
  • 4 Mixed 100 Backstroke
  • 5 Mixed 25 Butterfly
  • 6 Mixed 50 Butterfly
  • 7 Mixed 100 Breaststroke
  • 8 Mixed 25 Freestyle
  • 9 Mixed 50 Freestyle
  • 10 Mixed 200IM
  • 11 Mixed 25 Backstroke
  • 12 Mixed 50 Backstroke
  • 13 Mixed 100 Fly
  • 14 Mixed 200 Freestyle

For all our new swimmers, and those getting into racing, come along and give it a go! Club meets are a fun and supportive environment to try new events and distances and practice your racing.

Unregistered siblings are also welcome, please email our NEW club night coordinator, Amanda, at: wvsc.clubnight@wodenswimclub.org.au with your swimmer’s name, DOB and the events they would like to enter.

All Masters swimmers are also welcome. If you aren’t on Swim Central please also email the above details to Amanda and we will put an entry in for you.

As school swimming carnival season is coming up we are also welcoming all local school swimmers who would like some racing practice in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Please pass information onto your local schools and let them know manual entries will be accepted up until the closing date. Any swimmer is welcome, as long as they can swim 25m.

Entries close next Tuesday 21 February at 8pm. No late entries please! If you have any issues with entering via Swim Central please email Amanda asap and we will sort it out.

This post will be updated with the entry list for checking (Wednesday the 22nd after entries close) and the seeded program and timeline (Thursday the 23rd) and they will also be distributed via Team App.

Officials and timekeepers

As always, we cannot run club meets without volunteers! A duty roster is available via Team App or you can contact Amanda or Nic (wvscracesecretary@wodenswimclub.org.au) to let us know what you’d like to help out with. Most roles require no experience or training and if you’d like to try a new role, let us know in advance and we can organise some training and/or mentoring during the meet.

Age champion point score

This Calendar year we will run a new point score system to determine our age champions at the end of the year (to be awarded at the Christmas party). Details will be provided soon in a separate post, but you will be able to score points throughout the year, and will not need to swim at every club meet. Age will be based on calendar year – i.e. if you are turning 14 in 2023 you will be competing in the 14 years age champion.
