May 2021 Club Night Wrap -up

Thanks to everyone who came along to our May club night last Friday on a chilly evening. It was another big success and a good turnout. We had 31 swimmers from Woden, 11 from Burley Griffin, 2 from Telopea and 6 unregistered Sharks littlies having a go, a total of 49 in the water.

The evening got underway with Marcus presenting caps to those swimmers who have moved up a squad level. Congratulations to Leila, Daisy and Josh for their promotion to Bronze plus Alicia, Sid and Liam on their promotion to Silver.

We were also honoured to have a special guest for some the evening, Ian Lamb, a life member of both the Woden Sharks and ACT Swimming. He enjoyed chatting to many of the parents and volunteers and seeing everyone swim. He also brought along some of the original flags and pendants from the early Woden Swim Club days. A trip back in history as we approach the 50th anniversary of the club later in June.

There was as always some great swims. There were a number of swimmers trying events for the first time and plenty of PBs across the events. There was a haul of 44 PBs for our Woden registered swimmers and 7 PBs from our unregistered swimmers. The results are available below and have also been uploaded to Swim Central.

Well done everyone who competed and we hope you enjoyed the relay at the end of the night and the raffle.

Thanks as always to all the volunteers. It was great to see so many parents and swimmers time-keeping, marshalling, and thanks to the parents who volunteered to start learning the PC/scoreboard and meet-manager roles. It was great to have Karl on pool deck in the coaching role. The swimmers are looking forward to seeing the videos of their swims!

Thanks as always to our club night coordinator, Melissa for pulling everything together and helping herd the cats (uh swimmers 😉 ) and Marcus and Lorraine for their time and expertise.

We hope you all had a great night and we hope to see as many swimmers as possible at our next club night on 25 June.
