BACKGROUND

The Woden Valley “Sharks” Swim Club was established in Canberra on 21 June, 1971, originally swimming at Phillip Pool in the warmer months.  We are an incorporated, non-profit organisation, governed by club by-laws, managed by a Committee of dedicated parents and staffed by licensed swim coaches.  In August 2020 we relocated from Lakeside Leisure Centre in Tuggeranong to the brand new Stromlo Leisure Centre, Corner of Uriarra Road and Dave McInnes Rd, Stromlo ACT 2611.

Our club provides opportunities for families to come together in a healthy environment around the sport of swimming to compete, train and have fun. The club has a proud history of participating in the sport of swimming and we have a strong competitive focus.  Our swimmers range in ability from pre-competitive swimmers through to swimmers who have achieved national and international time standards.  We have produced swimmers who have competed at levels including the Olympics and Paralympics.

Although we are largely funded by membership fees, we conduct regular fundraising activities to ensure our facilities are of a high standard.  We are grateful for the generous support of our community, and our major sponsors.
