For our upcoming club events WVSC will be hosting Club Championships! This special event will tie into our 50th anniversary celebrations and be spread over 2 club meets and culminate in awarding of age champions at our combined end of year Christmas and 50th anniversary celebrations.

We recently unearthed the program from the club’s 20th anniversary meet. We have been inspired by this to create some special events for the rest of the year.

Read on for all the information and details……

For the second half of 2022 WVSC will host 3 special club events – 2 Saturday club meets, and a Saturday end of year awards and anniversary celebration. The 2 meets will serve as our club championships, where we will determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters across events across all age groups in races from 25m to 400m. There will also be a point score system to determine age champions (awarded at the December celebration).

We have split the club championships across 2 long course meets so that swimmers are able to swim in a wider variety of events, if they wish, and to allow us to hold two shorter meets rather than a full day meet. Swimmers may enter up to 4 individual events per meet and their best 6 results will count towards their point score.

Swimmers may attend 1 or both meets. Events will not be repeated between meets so please plan your events accordingly.

WVSC 5oth anniversary and end of year celebration

We will be holding a special end of year celebration on Saturday 17 December to round out 2022, and formally celebrate the clubs 50th anniversary. The Woden Swim Club was created in June 1971 and unfortunately Covid and lockdowns have prevented us from holding our celebrations at an earlier time. We will combine this years Christmas function with a fun anniversary celebration. No racing on this day, just plenty of food, the inflatable, special presentations and awarding of age champions. More details will follow but please save the date!

Club championships important information and rules

For our two club events the following applies:

  • Swimmers may attend one of both meets. A maximum of 4 individual events can be entered per meet. even if attending only 1 of the 2 meets. Swimmers may enter less events if they choose.
  • The best 6 results will count towards a swimmers point score.
  • Swimmers may only enter 25m events if they do not enter a longer event in the same stroke across either meet and do not have a short course or long course time recorded in Swim Central for a 50m event in that stroke. These 25m events are for our newer and younger swimmers. If swimmers have previously recorded a time in a 50m event of the same stroke they should not enter the 25m event at these meets. If swimmers have achieved a time of approximately 30 seconds (freestyle, backstroke, fly) or 35 seconds (breastroke) they should enter the 50m event for that stroke.
  • Events will be seeded on time and swum together. Points and medals will be awarded per event across the following groups:
  • The ACT swimming point score system will be used for determining age champions. Age champions will be awarded for each age group (9 and under to 16 and over, boys and girls).
  • Swimmers may nominate for the relay which will be held at the conclusion of the individual events. Nominations will also be in Swim Central. This does not count towards the swimmers total events or their point score. Coaches will determine relay teams.
  • We will attempt to put a longer interval between heats and events (time permitting) to allow swimmers to enter back to back events when required.
  • Swimmers from visiting clubs are permitted to swim but will not be awarded medals or points.
  • Points are only awarded to registered WVSC and WVSC Masters swimmers.
  • Age is at 10 September 2022. This age-up date will also apply to the 15 October meet and also be used to determine the age category for any awards.

Meet information

For all our new swimmers, and those getting into racing, come along and give it a go! Club meets are a fun and supportive environment to try new events and distances and practice your racing. You don’t need to have recorded a time in an event to enter it for these meets, if you are unsure about trying a new stroke/distance have a chat to your coach.

Unregistered siblings are also welcome, please email our club night coordinator, Karinda, at: wvsc.clubnight@wodenswimclub.org.au with your swimmer’s name, DOB and the events they would like to enter.

All Masters swimmers are also welcome. If you aren’t on Swim Central please also email the above details to Karinda and we will put an entry in for you.

Entries close next Wednesday 7 September at 7pm. No late entries please! If you have any issues with entering via Swim Central please email Karinda asap and we will sort it out.

As always, we cannot run club meets without volunteers! A duty roster is available via Team App or you can contact Karinda or Nic (wvscracesecretary@wodenswimclub.org.au) to let us know what you’d like to help out with. Most roles require no experience or training and if you’d like to try a new role, let us know in advance and we can organise some training and/or mentoring during the meet.

This post will be updated with the entry list for checking (Wednesday the 7th after entries close) and the seeded program and timeline (Friday the 9th). Please check back here for those documents if you haven’t received them via email from the race secretary. We are having issues with our email servers sending out bulk emails so documents will be added to this post when available for your convenience.
