Nationals wrap-up

April saw James, Waylon and Kyle representing Woden Sharks at the Age Nationals in Adelaide. It was a great event for all our swimmers. We saw year best times, PBs and Finalist Ribbons.

James competed in the 200 IM, 200 Back, 50 Back and 100 Back. Waylon competed in the 100 Breast, 50 Breast and 200 Breast. Kyle is competed in the 50 Free, 50 Fly and 100 Fly.

Congratulations to James, Kyle, Waylon and Yuriy, plus the parents supporting the team, from all accounts it was a positive experience for swimmers, coaches and parents.

All the swimmers did the club proud and achieved some fantastic results.

James: A 200 IM 2.26sec PB followed up with a 200 Back double PB with a total 1.40sec and coming 9th in the finals. In 50 Back James achieved a 0.43 PB, coming 6th in the finals and a 100 Back 0.43 PB, coming 4th in Finals.

Kyle: In the 50 Free, a fingernail (0.09 seconds) from a PB but season best time! In the 50 Fly another fingernail from a PB (0.20 seconds) and raced in the B Finals. In the 100 Fly and another fingernail 0.34 from a PB.

Waylon: In the 100 Breast a double PB of 0.82 and 7th in finals. In the 50 Breast, a double PB by 0.07 seconds and 7th in the finals. Finally, in 200 Breast Waylon came 8th in finals.

As a team we came first in ACT Men’s point score, supported by some massive personal achievements. We had Kyle returning to squads in Februray off the back of some extended leave while overseas; we had Waylon get COVID in the weeks before the meet; and James going to his first Nationals and all that that entails. Well done all!

A big thanks to Yuriy and the coaching team as we couldn’t get there without you all your support for the swimmers and the club.

The next targets for all our swimmers will be ACT Winter Champs and NSW Country Championships. Happy swimming!
